How best to install asset tracking tags

Keeping track of assets has always been a challenge.

Everything from trailers, waste bins, freight cages, construction and trade equipment, allow your team to do their jobs and be productive - so long as these assets are accessible and can be found.

Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time and effort to rely on a manual paper-based system or a randomly updated spreadsheet, and you can’t even depend on these to be 100% accurate. Growing businesses also tend to have a large number of assets deployed across many different sites which makes it difficult to monitor everything all at once.

Fortunately, asset tracking tags offer you an effective solution.

Low energy Bluetooth tags are asset tracking tools that allow you to track asset location and usage across your business, improving the visibility, productivity and efficiency of your day-to-day operations.

So, how do you install them?

How to install asset tracking tags

Attaching Bluetooth tags to your assets is really simple.

1. Determine the asset you want to track
The first step of the installation process starts with knowing what assets you have. This way, you can decide upfront where the ideal place is to apply the asset tracking tags and what material you’ll need to attach them with.

2. Create a consistent installation rule
Once you determine the best location, inform your team that every asset tracker unit will be installed in that same spot and via the same way. It makes everything easier if there’s uniformity.

3. Next comes the physical attaching
While asset tags all differ in design, each EROAD Where asset tracking tag has two connection points at either end which enables it to be easily fixed to your asset, whether it’s on the underside of a trailer, the top of a portaloo, or any of the other 1200 different assets we’ve considered (yes, we have a list of that many assets you can attach them to)!

These Bluetooth tracking tags can also be screwed, attached by cable ties, or connected by double-sided industrial tape - whatever works best for each surface.

1. Determine when and where installation will occur
After this, it’s time to roll out the asset trackers to all of your assets. This may involve a procedure where, for example:

  • every time they come in for repair, the team installs the tracking unit
  • you run a workshop where you attach them all in one go
  • send them out to your team to install them in the field, or
  • you use your installer network to install them when they are there for other jobs.

It’s up to you what works best for your organisation.
